Why Servicing Your Car’s AC Keeps the Cold Air Flowing

With fall and winter on their way, you may not be thinking too much about your car’s air conditioner, but what about when spring rolls around? Spring is the perfect time to have your vehicle’s AC serviced to make sure you’ll have cold air flowing all summer long. Let’s talk more about this below.

Compressor

The compressor is an important part of the air conditioning system. The compressor converts the gas refrigerant into a liquid. Once the refrigerant is in its liquid form, the compressor circulates it through the AC system so you have cold air blowing out of the vents. The compressor can break down over the winter because it isn’t being used – it actually works better when it’s used all the time. A spring AC service gives us a chance to test the compressor to make sure it does not malfunction.

Condenser

The condenser faces a different problem. This air conditioning system part is designed to collect the refrigerant and cool it off before it circulates through the system again. It uses outside air and a fan to accomplish this task. To take advantage of the outside air, the condenser is located directly behind the vehicle’s grille. This opens it up to clogs and damages from road debris.

Condenser Fan

We will inspect the condenser and the condenser fan to make sure they have not been damaged by road debris. If they have, they will be unable to cool off the refrigerant. Consequently, you will end up with hot air blowing into your passenger cabin instead of cold air. Inspecting and testing both air conditioning system parts makes certain they, too, will work all summer long.

Electrical System

Another thing that can affect the condenser fan is your vehicle’s electrical system. If it is malfunctioning, the condenser fan may not turn on. This will prevent the refrigerant from getting cold again. We will inspect the electrical system to make sure everything looks okay. If we see frayed wiring or any other problem, we will repair it to protect you and your vehicle.

Refrigerant

Finally, air conditioning services allow us to check the level of refrigerant in the air conditioning system. Any time there is not enough refrigerant in the system, the air blowing through the vents will be warm or hot. The refrigerant level can be reduced by refrigerant leaks or natural evaporation.

Now you know why servicing your car’s air conditioner in the spring can help keep the cold air flowing in the summer.
